How long does the paint enhancement process take? The duration of the paint enhancement process depends on the service level you choose. A New Car Polish typically takes a few hours, while more intensive treatments like Multi-Stage Machine Polishing can take a full day or more. We'll provide you with a time estimate during the initial consultation.
-
Will the polishing process remove all scratches from my car? While our polishing process is highly effective at removing or minimising light to moderate surface imperfections, not all scratches can be completely eliminated. Deep scratches that penetrate the clear coat may still be visible after polishing, though they will be significantly less noticeable. For severe damage, we recommend discussing options like touch-up paint or PPF (Paint Protection Film) for additional protection.
-
How often should I have my car’s paintwork enhanced? The frequency of paint enhancement depends on factors like how often you drive your vehicle, the conditions it's exposed to, and your personal preferences. Generally, we recommend a paint enhancement every 12 to 18 months to maintain your car’s appearance, especially if you want to keep it looking its best.
-
What is the difference between single-stage and multi-stage machine polishing?Single-stage machine polishing involves one round of polishing to refine the paintwork, ideal for cars with minor imperfections or those needing a light refresh. Multi-stage machine polishing, on the other hand, involves multiple steps using different grades of polish to address more severe imperfections and achieve a deeper, more refined finish. It's perfect for older vehicles or those with significant wear and tear.

Is there anything I need to do to prepare my car before bringing it in?There’s no need to do anything special before bringing your car in; we handle all preparation on-site, including washing and decontamination. However, if you have any specific concerns or areas you want us to focus on, feel free to let us know during your initial consultation.
-
Will polishing remove my car's paint protection or wax?Yes, the polishing process will remove any existing wax, sealants, or temporary paint protection products. After polishing, we recommend applying a high-quality ceramic coating or Paint Protection Film (PPF) to protect your car’s newly enhanced paintwork. We offer these services as well, and our team can guide you on the best protection options for your vehicle.
-
How many times can my car's paintwork be polished before it's too thin? The number of times your car's paintwork can be polished depends on several factors, including the thickness of the clear coat, the type of paint, and the level of polishing performed each time. Modern vehicles typically have a clear coat thickness of around 30 to 50 microns, and each polishing session can remove a small amount of this layer, usually between 2 to 5 microns, depending on the aggressiveness of the polish and pad used. In general, most vehicles can safely undergo a few rounds of professional polishing over their lifetime without compromising the clear coat. However, it's important to note that once the clear coat becomes too thin, further polishing could lead to permanent damage, exposing the underlying paint and leading to costly repairs. At BB Detailing, we use precise tools like paint thickness gauges to measure the depth of your car’s clear coat before and after polishing. This allows us to safely perform the service without risking over-thinning the paint. If your vehicle has already undergone significant polishing in the past, we’ll assess the condition and recommend alternative approaches, such as less abrasive techniques or protective coatings, to maintain your car's appearance without compromising its paintwork.
